Summer Tour Planned Across the U.S. to Promote New CD
Osprey, FL, May 5, 2015 – James “Sunny Jim” White, a singer songwriter based in Southwest Florida, has just released his 10th CD of original music entitled Rum Shoes. He will be promoting the new record on tour this summer in the Midwest, the Gulf Coast and the Southwest. The new CD is infused with Caribbean flavor, a touch of Hawaiian, a dash of Texas and a bit of movie humor. An accomplished musician, White wrote all but two of the songs. He produced and recorded the 11 tracks in his home studio, and sang all the vocals. Musician John Patti added the sweet sound of his Caribbean steel drum throughout the record and Singer Michelle Becker sang harmonies on several songs.
“Stunningly good is one way to describe Sunny Jim's new CD Rum Shoes,” says Radio Radio Margaritaville’s Steve Huntington. “In our sixteen years of playing his music on Radio Margaritaville, I had not seen him quite this excited about a new album project. As each new song got road-tested, starting with the instantly popular “Rum Shoes,” it has been easy to hear that this could be the best Sunny Jim record yet.”
“My creative juices were flowing,” said White, “some songs had been stewing in my brain for a couple of years, and others poured out during a 5-day period when I was listening to my Muse. As a songwriter, this is very rewarding.”
The title track “Rum Shoes” − quickly becoming an anthem for rum lovers − is a song idea sparked by a casual comment from a fan years ago. In this light-hearted reggae tune Sunny Jim is asking you to “get your rum shoes on” to safely walk the “Bar-Muda Triangle” of neighborhood bars. Another fun tune is “Flying Monkeys,” which causes us to remember the wicked witch of Oz fame and her creepy winged companions. “Get on de Bus,” with its jumping Soca beat, brings out the conga line dancers. Based on a true story, White immortalizes a surly Caribbean bus diver on the on island of Tobago.
The first track on the CD is “Mikala,” a sweet ballad inspired by a visit to Hawaii.
“Stay Cool, Surf!” is an ode to following your dreams at any age. “Out of My Depth” is a reggae love song, and a late night thunderstorm inspired “Zen of Rain.” “Afterglow” speaks to the sun-kissed feeling you get after a great day at the beach. Sunny Jim wrote “Phoenix Moon” after watching a full lunar eclipse during a clear, high desert night in Arizona.
“The changing of the moon was sublime, and it made me think of how everything comes and goes, it renews and comes back around again - like the mythical Phoenix,” he said.
There are two cover songs on Rum Shoes: “Gimme da ‘Ting” an old soca/calypso tune made famous by Caribbean great Lord Kitchener and “Dashboard Hula Girl” written by musician Klee Liles.
Creativity runs in the White family - Hallie White, Sunny Jim’s daughter, is the artist who created the illustration for Rum Shoes cover and designed the CD jacket.
