Melbourne 3 May 2015: This afternoon, professional surfer Mick Fanning, dual international Ellyse Perry and Olympic snowboarder Alex ‘Chumpy‘ Pullin visited the Wings for Life World Run starting line to check out the track ahead of the run‘s 9pm start.

Joining the three elite athletes at the starting line were fellow Wings for Life World Run ambassadors and sufferers of spinal cord injury Barney Miller, Rhiannon Tracey and Josh Wood. By taking part in tonight’s event – which will simultaneously take place in 35 locations across the world – both the ambassadors and athletes are joining the fight to find a cure for spinal cord injury.

“It’s great to be down in Melbourne for the Wings For Life World Run, it’s a great atmosphere down here so I encourage everyone to come down and support spinal cord injury research!“ – Mick Fanning

“I’m really excited about the event; the weather’s been absolutely stunning and it’s great to be down in Melbourne. I think there’s going to be a really great vibe of excitement around tonight, and it will be really wonderful to run alongside so many fantastic people too.“ – Ellyse Perry

“I‘m really excited to be here; this is my second Wings For Life World Run in Australia. Last year we had it over in WA, with this year’s down in Melbourne, Victoria. It’s really good to see the conditions are in favour of the Run, with perfect weather. It’s such a great cause, and the numbers this year really show how much it’s grown, especially on a global scale. It will be great to see which country comes away with a win!“ – Alex Chumpy Pullin
