20th annual Union Hill Garden Tour opens neighborhood and private residents’ gardens to the public on Sunday, June 14

Benefiting the Union Cemetery Historical Society, the tour will also include local vendors, a 4-string quartet and special offers from neighborhood restaurants

Kansas City, Mo. (May 4, 2015)– The public is invited to experience the beauty of one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods during the 2015 Union Hill Garden Tour on Sunday, June 14 as community and private residents’ gardens will be open for viewing. Self-guided tours will be available from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and proceeds from the Garden Tour will donate to the Union Cemetery Historical Society, a nonprofit with a mission to restore, maintain, and preserve the burial records of Union Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri’s oldest public cemetery.

In addition to the self-guided tours, a string-quartet from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance will perform live, classical music from noon – 2:00 p.m. in the neighborhood gazebo located just to the north of 30^th Street and Grand Avenue. Local vendors and artisans will sell plants and gardening goods throughout the neighborhood and the Union Cemetery Historical Society will sell copies of the cemetery’s official history book, Kansas City’s Historic Union Cemetery: Lessons for the Future from the Garden of Time. Neighborhood restaurants will also offer special discounts to Garden Tour attendees.
