香港 - Media OutReach - 2022年8月3日 - 香港理工大学(理大)建设及环境学院院长李向东教授所领导的有关空气PM2.5污染及其对健康影响的重点研究项目,在研究资助局(研资局)2022/23年度主题研究计划(第十二轮),获得4,450万港元拨款支持。 该题为「剖析空气污染与公共健康之关系以实现变革性的空气质素管理」的研究项目,将找出诱发慢性阻塞性肺病、缺血性心脏病等心肺系统疾病的微细悬浮粒子(PM2.5)中,所含的关键有害成分及其来源。 研究会基于详实的科学证据,提出适用于香港及世界各地的空气质素管理方案,建议更有效、更实用及更具成本效益的方法,以保障公共健康。 李向东教授亦是环境科学和技术讲座教授、高赞明可持续城市发展教授,以及可持续城市发展研究院院长。他表示:「研究成果有望促使香港修订空气质素健康指数的算法和健康建议,并检讨空气质素指标。我们亦会将研究结果传达予其他地区和国际机构,为未来世界各地制定空气质素管理政策,提供参考。」 李教授领导的团队,由来自理大及其他大学的十几名研究人员组成,其中有数名成员担任世界卫生组织空气质素顾问专家。团队将定期举办研讨会,与专家组的各持份者就PM2.5相关的重要健康议题进行探讨。 确定PM2.5的关键有害成分及其来源一直是一个科学难题,团队利用环境毒理学和分子流行病学的近期发展,突破这个难题,并借助PM2.5全球监测网络,选择代表不同自然条件和社会经济发展状况的城市,进行研究。 研究结果亦会兼顾碳中和目标下的不同减碳情境,以及从改善空气污染和减缓气候变化两方面所带来的健康效益。 长远而言,此项研究所建立的综合方法,未来可拓展到有关PM2.5对长期健康影响的研究,例如肺癌和神经退行性病变等相关病症;亦可应用到规管PM2.5政策的研究。 研资局在本轮计划共资助八项杰出的研究项目,拨款合共超过3.06亿元。李教授的项目是其中之一。 Hashtag: #理大
