香港 - Media OutReach - 2023年7月27日 - 香港大学(港大)理学院地球科学系副教授 Joseph Michalski博士获颁授2023年"科学探索奖",以表扬他对行星学和火星研究领域的贡献。Joseph Michalski博士是首位获颁这殊荣的非华裔得奖人。

Joseph Michalski博士主力从事火星的古老地壳研究,他认为火星古老地壳包含有关地球生命起源,以及前板块构造过程的重要讯息。 "火星和地球有着相似的地质环境,因此火星当初其实有可能形成生命,就像地球孕育出生命一样。而因为地球有板块结构,火星没有,地球地壳经历了几乎彻底的改变,火星却保留了原地壳,这意味着要了解生命起源及当中过程,唯一的希望是在火星,不是在地球,这是研究火星古老地壳的重要原因。"Joseph Michalski博士解释说。他指出,地球和火星在38亿至40亿年前的地质环境极为相似,火星其实极有可能与地球一样衍生出生物。 Joseph Michalski博士和研究团队利用一系列遥感数据,包括来自火星轨道卫星和火星表面探测器的红外线、可见光、磁力、重力和激光数据,从火山学、地质化学、构造学和矿物学等多方面,研究发掘对火星的新知。 Michalski 博士在港大成立了行星光谱和矿物学实验室(Planetary Spectroscopy and Mineralogy Laboratory),从事前沿研究,为中国及其他地区对火星、月球及其他小行星的探索任务作出支持。Michalski 博士同时是港大太空研究实验室副主任,推动大学应用太空科学跨学科发展。 港大祝贺Joseph Michalski博士获得殊荣,期望他为太空研究继续作出突破。 "科学探索奖" 是一项由科学家主导的公益性奖项,是目前中国国内金额最高的青年科技人才资助计划之一,于2018年由腾讯基金会发起人马化腾,联同杨振宁、饶毅、施一公、潘建伟及谢晓亮等14位科学家共同发起,每年嘉许不超过50位青年科学家,每人获300万元人民币作五年研究之用。 "科学探索奖"网页。 Hashtag: #港大
