SAN FRANCISCO (May 11, 2015) — Strava Local harnesses the power of Strava, the leading global athlete community, to reveal a unique collection of the highest-quality running and cycling adventures in the world.

The new data-powered, athlete-curated travel guide for endurance athletes launches May 11 for 12 global cities, including San Francisco, Denver/Boulder and New York, and is based on data from over 38 million activities uploaded by Strava community members.

“We’ve built a series of city guides designed specifically for athletes, by athletes,” says Gareth Nettleton, Strava’s Director of International Marketing . “Our data shows us the world’s most popular routes, and our community of local influencers curate each guide to provide a rich and full experience, whether you’re new in town or rediscovering your city. Every Strava Local guide includes routes of varying difficulty, in the city or the countryside, as well as our favorite places to buy gear, grab coffee or simply pull over and snap a great photo.”

A concept borne from Strava’s quarterly in-house creative sessions, dubbed “Jams,” Strava Local cultivates data from the community’s millions of uploaded activities to explore where athletes run, ride and stop in the world’s most active cities. Strava’s product team then works with local influencers to ensure that each guide features the city’s best riding and running experiences. The Denver/Boulder city guide alone is built on the data from more than 1.7 million activity uploads.

“We're honored to be one of Strava’s Top Stops in San Francisco,” says Brian Keefe, Four Barrel Coffee’s wholesale liaison. “Cycling culture is an important piece of our city and the Four Barrel Coffee brand. Strava Local’s combination of athlete data and local knowledge provides a unique resource for riders and runners in the Bay Area, as well as an authentic platform for local businesses to reach new customers.”

In addition to three U.S. locations, Strava Local is available today for Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, London, Melbourne, Milan, Paris, Sao Paulo and Sydney.

“Strava Local is a scalable platform that we plan to take to many additional cities in the near future,” says Strava Chief Commerce and Marketing Officer Erik Joule. “Strava athletes are active across the globe, and whether traveling to Los Angeles or Melbourne, the insights our data and local experts hold can inform traveling athletes everywhere.”

Optimized for viewing on mobile devices, athletes can access Strava Local online and select top routes to follow with Strava on the road or trail. Strava Local can be found at strava.com/local.
