(Boulder, CO) – May 5, 2015 – Adventure Projects, creators of authentic communities for planning, doing, and sharing outdoor activities, celebrates two years of growth of MTB Project, the next generation of mountain bike trail maps. Over 1,000,000 users have enjoyed 40,000 miles of guidebook-quality trail information on MTB Project's mobile apps and website.

Inspired by the success of the company’s original community, Mountain Project, the definitive resource for the rock climbing community, MTB Project seeks to provide the best interactive mountain bike trail maps and guides on the market. MTB Project offers mountain bike trail information with the thoroughness of a printed map, and adds modern features such as navigation to trailheads, offline mapping, detailed descriptions, elevation profiles, photos, a race directory, and even the ability to take a “virtual ride.” Trail data and photos are user-generated and carefully vetted by regional experts.

A model partnership with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), formed around a shared vision to create a comprehensive database of mountain bike trail info, has brought relevant data and legitimacy to MTB Project. In addition, a partnership with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has made MTB Project the official source of mountain bike trail data for its quad topographic maps, and a partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) ensures all featured BLM trails are mapped and in MTB Project, as well as displayed on official BLM channels.

“The growth of MTB Project has been phenomenal, and we're thrilled to see bikers finding new trails and enjoying the sport more,” says Nick Wilder, Adventure Projects co-founder and programmer. “When we partnered with IMBA, they shared a mission to create a comprehensive trail database, and that partnership has been a stunning success. Working directly with the USGS and BLM gives us some nice validation that what we’re building is the gold standard for mountain biking trail maps.”

“We are very proud of the MTB Project effort,” adds Mike Van Abel, IMBA's executive director. "Everything about the website and the mobile apps is exceptionally well conceived, from the interactive maps that show users where they are on a trail in real time to the high-quality photos and written descriptions. It's a fantastic platform for finding new places to ride and helping people have great experiences on mountain bikes. Those qualities are right in line with IMBA's core mission."

“It's been great to be a part of the private and public sectors working together to provide trails data and maps to the public,” said Greg Matthews, Applied Researcher with the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC). “We're looking forward to continued partnership and expanding the number of trails available as MTB Project contributions grow.”
