Celebrate National Tourism Week Right Here in Fremont County, May 2-10, 2015

Lander, WY - May just happened. Summer mildly flirts from around the corner. The first week of May is also National Tourism Week where people emerge from their caves and winter torpor to get out and about. We suggest shaking off hibernation with a last-minute, spontaneous mini-vacation in Fremont County.
When was the last time you saw Castle Gardens, walked the wagon ruts near Split Rock, or brushed up on history at Sacajawea’s burial site? How long has it been since you stream-stalked, then cleaned and smoked a trout? What are you going to do with the barrage of incoming house guests that stay just maybe a touch too long?
We have a few ideas to celebrate National Tourism Week without even having to leave Fremont County:
1) Stickers. People love stickers. Wyoming Office of Tourism made over two dozen iconographic stickers for popular areas throughout Wyoming and a complimentary road trip (scavenger hunt!) map. Stop by a local visitor center to start your collection with the Wind River Country sticker featuring a Powwow dancer and mountain scenery.
2) Driving Tour Maps: The Wind River Visitor Council put together some enticing self-guided driving tours to explore the best of Wind River Country. See it online at [windriver.org/page/driving-tours] or stop by a local Chamber of Commerce or visitor center to get your printed map.
3) Mini-vacate: Going on vacation doesn’t have to mean spending that precious two-paid-weeks, breaking the bank on plane tickets and dog-sitters, and dealing with the punishment from your Inbox upon return. Sneak off for a night or weekend to a local dude ranch, B&B, or rustic cabin for a little downtime before the blur that is summer. (Mowing can wait.) Early-season rates and crowds are both at year-round-lows.
Your summer training regimen begins now (and we’re not talking swimsuit-ready, we mean train-hard-for-summer-in-Wyoming ready.) This May it is time to reinvigorate from what we love year round and bank ideas and stories to share with our luckiest of visitors.
