METdance is inviting the public to join in the celebration its second anniversary at its new location, a state-of-the art dance center in the heart of Midtown. To mark the occasion, the non-profit dance school is offering free classes for children and adults from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 31 at 2808 Caroline St.
Lessons will rotate hourly between Modern Dance, Jazz, Ballet, Zumba, Hip Hop, Pro Sports, Broadway Jazz, Contemporary and Tap dance in the center’s four studios. Guests may also enjoy some sweet light bites if they work up an appetite during the complimentary dance sessions.
Artistic director Marlana Doyle encourages participants to reserve a spot, as space is limited. Each guest may enroll in one class. “We want aspiring dancers and those who are pre-professionals to come check out our amazing facility and open teen and adult program as well as children’s classes,” she said. “Anyone can take a class if you like to dance. We have beginner levels to advanced. We’re a very welcoming dance center, and we want everyone to come, see and celebrate.”
Adult and children’s classes will be held in separate studios. Children must be at least three years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Current students of the MET are invited to bring a friend.
Founded in 1995, Houston Metropolitan Dance Center pursues its mission to educate and revitalize a passion for dance through world-class instruction and performance. The dance company has traveled across the U.S. impressing critics and audiences alike while performing works by some of the most influential and talented choreographers around.
METdance also has a strong community outreach program, including its educational "Swing, Jive, Pop" performance.
The MET Dance Center opened the doors to a newly renovated facility in May 2013. “It’s been busy since we opened – but many people still do not know about the center,” Doyle said. “We offer all different styles of dance -- at all different levels. People come to our classes for exercise, relaxation and professional training.”
Now serving as Houston's second-largest dance training space, the MET Dance Center offers comprehensive training in multiple disciplines to students of all experience levels, ages 3 and up.
The facility also houses Houston MET Too, a non-competitive youth training company that develops the skills and styles dancers need to perform throughout the Houston community and beyond.
